Why Drain Emergencies Cluster on Weekends in Sun City West
Most of the emergency backups we clear here happen Friday night through Sunday, and it is not a coincidence. Weekend guests, extra laundry, and a full dishwasher put more water through an already narrowed cast iron line than a quiet weekday ever does, and the partly blocked lateral that coped Monday through Thursday finally gives out.
It is worse during monsoon season. From late June through September, saturated soil around the greenbelts pushes roots to swell inside old joints, and a line that was draining at half capacity closes completely. That is the call we get at 9pm on a Saturday, and it is exactly why a real dispatcher answers our phone at that hour instead of a voicemail box.
